Our conference-wide morning addresses are a chance for all attendees to come together and hear from leading voices in the field of theology, biblical studies, and the arts. Plenary sessions will open each full day of programming, following morning chapel services.

Plenary Addresses

Inspired by a single creedal line, these two conference-wide addresses will expound on the theological and biblical content of the Creed—and explore how that content continues to impact the field of theology and the arts today.

“Of one being with the father”

Friday, September 5, 9 AM

What does an especially contentious debate from 1700 years ago have to do with how Christians engage the arts today? And how might the arts serve to reinvigorate a deeper appreciation for the unbelievably shocking and bold claim that the Creed makes about the person of Jesus? In this plenary, former Archbishop Rowan Williams will explore these questions and more as he examines the Creed’s implications & inspirations for the field of theology and the arts.

“In accordance with the Scriptures”

Saturday, September 6, 9 AM

How can a robust biblical theology awaken the imagination and a foster a responsive and responsible encounter with the arts? And how might the arts, in turn, serve to reawaken and deepen our appreciation for the wonderfully quirky and mysterious story the Bible tells about God and God’s people? New Testament professor Amy Peeler will explore these questions and more during this plenary. The session will include a response and original poetry by Malcolm Guite.

These sessions are open to conference attendees only. See below to get your spot today!

Meet the Speakers

“So we don’t get to know what God is ‘like’ in the abstract; we don’t get a definition delivered in the language of ideas. We get a life that shows us what God wants to happen, one that makes it possible for what God wants actually to become real in and for all of us.”

Rowan Williams

“God designed creation never for anyone to go rogue and do it on our own. We do our best when men and women come together.”

Amy Peeler
